Pantelleria Italy, Daughter of The Wind

If you are looking for something different, have a holiday that will make for good party talk - this is the place. The island of Pantelleria is unlike anything we had seen before, or may see again. From it's rocky origins, to the unique houses called "Dammusi," tall mountain, and wonderful views of the sea. From the Arabic word "Daughter of the The Wind" this island South West of Sicily is a well kept secret by those Northern Italians that are on the inside track for coveted spots off the beaten track. This is not a place for everyone.

So, let's take a quick test to see if it's right for you:
1) Have you been to Italy a few times and are looking for something different?
2) Are you tired of hearing more English than Italian?
3) Do you want to dazzle your friends at a cocktail party with a place you have discovered?
4) Do the sea, volcanic slopes and thermal caves interest you?
5) Do white wines with Arabic origins titillate your tongue?
6) Are you ready to relax in a place where cellphone connections are not very good, and gift shopping is nonexistent?
7) Have you ever wanted to see the place that produces more capers than any other place?

If you have answered "yes" to the above questions, you are in que for this place. Those that shouted the correct answers may as well start arranging their air tickets now. This is the place for you.

Gracefully Growing Old

Pantelleria is a new place to visit - it's only about 30,000 years old and it has loads of natural beauty..the sea, a lake, many places to explore nature..and around the island a handful of small villages with a trattoria or two, a main town of the same name with bigger shops, restaurants, a couple bankomats, bars and discotheques during the summer months. From walking through the mountainous nature reserve, to lake heated mud packs and natural cave saunas, to swimming in the blue sea or just staying by the pool of your rental, here is a place to mellow out. No crime, no need to lock doors (celebrities have come to prefer this place because they do not need body guards or their regular entourage) and a place to simply leave all your troubles behind. Come with friends and enjoy relaxing. But don't come to do gift shopping..there's no place for that and there won't be. The locals don't want that kind of commercial influence here, most of them having created it. Also don't come in August as the place swells to 50,000, and the owner's use their fabulous rentals are usually staying there themselves. Pantelleria is considered by most people as Italy's most beautiful island. A volcanic mountain thrusts out of the middle and clouds sometimes shroud its green peak of Pantelleria pine. A sister peak bobs below and terraced fields bordered by handmade stone walls one-two meter high stretch for the whole island. In fact it is quite similar to Ireland in this respect, but a whole lot warmer. This islands has everything one needs for a good life - rich soil, beautiful nature, the sea, green mountains and roads of decent making. It has it everything but for one thing - water. That is a precious commodity one can not take for granted. During the summer and winter, plastic plates and cutlery is often used for families of more than two, as it is better to throw away than use water.
