A Little on the Region
It is known as "The Pearl of the province of Treviso", and also as "The City of a Hundred Horizons" for its mountain settings.Old stone alleyways, mansions and arcades all speak of an age old history and tradition that makes for a memorable holiday. With its old history, beautiful setting and classic rambling hill town style centered around its piazza, Asolo is a fabulous place to be centered. Part of the charm is its focus on art. Many months of the year sport a celebration of art - from music to film, food and crafts. Great place to eat too - Asolo is a relatively undiscovered gem among the art cities of Veneto. Our favorite event is every second Sunday there is an Antiques Fair in the piazza. That provides a unique gift to bring home. Catch the Palio - third Sunday in September. Just a few sites to see in town include the city's castle fortress once home to Caterina Cornaro and her Renaissance court. Now its Reata Towers houses the theatre dedicated to Eleonora Duse. The Palazzo della Ragione, a fifteenth-century construction with a facade emblazoned with frescoes by Contarini currently houses the City Museum. On the Northeast side of the Piazza Brugnoli were the Roman baths. You can visit the last stretch of the Roman aqueduct called "la Bot". Click here for more ideas.
