Villa Pianesante, farmhouse rental in Todi

Villa Pianesante, villa farmhouse rental in Todi, Umbria

Villa Pianesante, villa farmhouse rental in Todi, Umbria. Villa Pianesante is an attractive XVII century stone farmhouse that sits on a hilltop in the un-spoilt countryside between Todi and Orvieto. This stone house has recently been completely restored, retaining its original Umbrian features providing guests with a historic ambience and optimum comfort during their stay. A vacation at Villa Pianesante is a true Italian holiday experience. This villa is surrounded by lawns leading into rolling hills embroidered with olive groves, vineyards and cypresses.

The Estate is owned and managed by the noble Santoro family. It is a successful mixture of a well established family run business and the Italian tradition of hospitality.

Villa Pianesante can be found in an enviably secluded position perched on the side of a mountain, accessed by a winding drive. Young children will be able to play contentedly and safely. At the front of the villa. facing the valley, there is a large pergola with a table seating 10 for al fresco dining. At the end of the terrace is a built-in stone pizza oven which is a favorite for children making their own pizzas. At the back of the villa is a large loggia with dining furniture, BBQ and views of the countryside. The loggia running the length of the swimming pool (formally a lavatoio where historically clothes would be washed) is reminiscent of a Roman spa pool as you would find at Bagno Vigoni. The villa is comfortably and attractively furnished in Umbrian style, in keeping with its old terracotta floors and beamed ceilings.

The pool (12 meters x 5 meters) and is open from mid May to the end of September. A short walk (25 meters or so) on a small rise is a shaded picnic table for wonderful lunches.

A Little on the Region
They say that Umbria is the "Green Heart" of Italy - largely due to its location (the middle), shape (more or less a heart shape after a couple bottles of wine) and the color (rolling fields of green among forests). It's a lovely place, there is no denying this. But where to go? What to do? You are within a very close driving distace between Todi and Orvieto - bit with their own appeal and restaurants. May we suggest Perugia for its shopping, international ambience and film houses; Orvieto for its fabulous duomo and antiquities, Deruta for its ceramics, Assisi for the spiritual awakening and Todi for its art, ambience and antiquity. Nearby the small hamlets of Morre, Collelungo and Moruzze will have a couple of small grocery shops. But the real stuff is further afield. The Todi Estate includes a wonderful outdoor (covered structure) restaurant/grill located about 2 km from the castle, and less than 1 km walk from the other Todi properties of Pianesante and Cipresso. Fine Italian dining is in your future when you visit TodiCastle. Expect fresh, organic olive oil, truffles, wine and spices-all produced on the Estate. The property even boasts an in house restaurant, The Umbria Grill, where dining takes on a more fabulous meaning. A local chef is also available to prepare a delicious meal for you and your guests. To complete your Italian food experience, you might want to visit the nearby Ricotta and Pecorino cheese farm, wineries and olive oil mills in the area, or local farms to get another taste of true Italian country living.
